Trip 2 Rwanda: 21st June - 3rd July

Back to latest news

Geoff and Henry are in Rwanda to explore how the work of RMA can develop. We are visiting hospitals and health clinics whilst listening to the Lord as to what He wants us to do. We are also spending time encouraging our brothers and sisters in the body of Christ as well.

Depending on access to a computer, we will keep this page updated throughout our trip with details of our progress and any prayer points. Thank you for your prayers. Love in Christ Jesus, Geoff & Hen.

Our Itenery

Tuesday 22nd - Arrive & spend the afternoon with the Archbishop of Rwanda, Emmanuel Kolini

He is the MAN! He and our host Nathan are really positive about the work we are trying to do. Please pray that we are able to find ways to work together to bring in the Kingdom!

Wednesday 23rd - Visit Genocide Sites and HIV clinic in Bugesara

We spent this day in the Bugesara district and visited a genocide site and an HIV AIDS clinic that is being set up by the church. Due to much rape during the genocide, AIDS has spread throughout this area. We will be able to supply this clinic with equipment to help get it started and functioning.

Please pray for the contacts that we have made and are making. Pray that the Lord will give us discernment on how best to get equipment to help.

Thursday 24th - Visit Arahaza health clinic in Kigali

We visited a health clinic in Kigali and met Charles who runs the place. This is a very basic place that serves many people in the slums so we could really bless them.

New new churches shout it out! This is our prophetic song for Rwanda as we are praying for the Lord to move.

Friday 25th - Visit Kigali Health Institute in the morning and Kigali General Hospital in the afternoon.

The Health Institute is a training centre for the future medical staff of Rwanda. They are quite well equipped and we may possibly help with finding books for their library. It was a useful visit to find out more about the future.

The Kigali Central Hospital is somewhere we will definitely support. They are in desperate need of help and have wards with very ill people sharing beds. They are very under equipped and much of the equipment we have just sent will bless them. Watch this space for more. Florence is the head nurse there and will be our main contact, she has a real heart to see the lives of those in the hospital transformed in Jesus' name.

Saturday 26th - Go off to Cyangugu!

Cyangugu is on the far South Western border with Congo. Although it is quite remote the work there is wonderful. An English missionary was there from 1994 and has set up schools, a workshop, a guesthouse, a farm and a health centre. It was really good to see how a place can be transformed by a church in action, we will help them a bit with specialist equipment.

Sunday 27th - Church in Cyangugu and travel back to Kigali via Kigame hospital.

There has just been som conflict on the other side of the border in Congo, we met with some refugees at the church and were able to pray for the country. The journey back from Cyangugu was about five hours through the forest and tea plantations! We were with a wonderful chap called Bishop Francis who is in charge of the HIV/AIDS work out here. a simple test only costs 40p, we will be helping him with sending out test kits.

Kigame hospital is in an extremely rural area. It is quite a large place with doctors and nurses but is really lacking in fundamental equipment, including regular electricity! This makes the use of incubators (see above), operating lights, ventilators, etc. very difficult. They serve a very large area and are really in need of an ambulance, many patients are carried for miles on stretchers.

Monday 28th - Evangelism in Kigali!

We went out in to the city and tried a bit of evangelism and prayer for the people. We had some good chats with the taxi drivers and bought some Rwandan bibles to preach from! We will continue to do this in spare time!

We are still amazed that we have not gotten ill! Thank you so much for your prayers, keep it up! Prase the Lord!

Tuesday 29th - Meetings with Nathan and the Archbishop and visit Florence.

Meetings went well, we are still praying how to take things forward when we get back to the UK. Please pray that we keep our cutting edge and understand the cultural issues that we are encountering.

We had a spontaneous burst of evangelism in the evening when we were preaching from the Rwandan bible to many homeless adults and children out on the street. It was amazing! Pray that we get more opportunity for this!

Wednesday 30th - Visit Military hospital in the morning and a community of child headed families in the afternoon.

Thursday 1st - Meet Bishop Josias who is setting up HIV/AIDS clincs throughout Rwanda in the morning. Visit an asylum in the afternoon.

Friday 2nd - General conclusive banter.

Saturday 3rd - Travel Home
